Bangladesh Leaders Congratulates Pranab

Bangladesh's top leadership today congratulated Pranab Mukherjee on his election as India's President and expressed optimism that Indo-Bangla relations would grow further under his "direction".In separate letters to Mukherjee, President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wished him a successful tenure at the highest office of India. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar congratulated Pranab Mukherjee for his victory in the presidential poll. He also requested Mukherjee to undertake a visit to Bihar shortly.

 In India politics the position of president is  as symbolic, with the prime minister holding the executive and  real political power, most of the political experts feel members of minorities are usually chosen in order to help unite the country.Rarity for a political veteran like Mukherjee to take up the post. Mukherjee has held prominent positions such as finance,foreign and defense minister.Prime Minster Manmohan Singh has been facing challenges from India's slowing economy and conflicts between coalition parties.This landslide victory of his party's candidate Mukherjee will bring more opportunity for Dr Singh to shoot his arsenal of his fiscal experts as he retains the important portfolio of Pranab Mukherjee.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today congratulated President-elect Pranab Mukherjee on his victory in the presidential polls and exuded hope that the veteran leader, with decades of experience in public life, would provide guidance to the government and the country.
DMK president M Karunanidhi today greeted Pranab Mukherjee on his win in the Presidential election, saying Mukherjee secured majority of the votes because he was a "good democrat" and an "administrator".

 West Bengal, Mukherjee's home state voted overwhelmingly in his favour giving him 275 of the 294 votes with a value of 41525. CPI and RSP had abstained from voting. Sangma polled three votes with a value of 453. Four votes were invalid.Mithai shops must be running out of sandesh.

  Pranab Mukherjee has called up Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and Janata Dal - United chief Sharad Yadav for supporting him in the Presidential poll.
Both Shiv Sena and JD-U, members of the NDA, had supported Pranab against the wishes of the BJP,

  PA Sangma gives his thanksgiving speech for those who gave him support  -- particularly Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa and Orissa CM Navin Patnaik -- who were the first to nominate his candidature.
"I wish Pranab Mukherjee success. I may have lost the elections, but India has lost the opportunity to elect a tribal to the highest post in the country. The poll process has been partisan and a code of conduct is needed," says Sangma. His vote count stands at 257466. Referring to the overwhelming support for Pranab in north-east states, Sangma says the people of north-east are no more capable of standing on their feet. The people are totally dependent on the Centre, says Sangma.
