14 June 2011 New Delhi:Nksagar-Sagar Media Inc: Indian Olympic Association and National Sports Federations on Monday led delegation headed by acting IOA president VK Malhotra met Prime Minister Dr Man Mohan asked him to intervene in scrapping the "draconian" National Sports Development Bill proposed by the sports ministry. Dr Singh was shown the letter from the IOC, threatening the IOA with suspension if their autonomy is infringed.
VK Malhotra said sports is a state subject and now the Central government wants to have full control over sports by introducing this bill."Sports has always been a state subject, we don't want the government to have total control over sports. The bill is in violation of the Olympic Charter and India could be banned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for government interference. Kuwait was also banned by the IOC for government interference," "We told the prime minister that this is a draconian bill and that we have rejected the bill outright. Dr. Singh said he doesn't know much about this bill and will ask the sports ministry to submit a detailed report," said VK Malhotra.
Officials accompanying told the prime minister that they are fine with Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) auditing the accounts of sports organisations and the provision for free and fair elections.
Later on Tuesday FICCI called an Interactive Session on Draft Sports (Development) Bill 14th June, 2011 Federation House, New Delhi at FICCI, Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi- 110001.Interactive Session on Draft Sports devlopment bill was chaired by Mr RK Anand,RS MP Legal experts of IOA, attended by various members of national federation,sports celebrities Arjun Vajpe,Sunita Godra,IOA members and Nksagar representing the Newspapers Editor's Society.Two hours deliberation touched varied dimensions of proposed bill ranging from criticism being draconian,state of affairs of national sports federations,sports authorities,Sports ministry and later culminated into unanimously resolving in the making of the draft of bill with best of inputs to strengthen sports across the country.FICCI thus to take up the lead in giving public hearing of the bill and thus submitting to the government their proposal for draft of National sports development bill.Reacting to the proposed draft most of the members talked of widening the scope of draft to be more comprehensive with accountability and transparency in all subjects of sports.
RK Aanand stressed that for sorting and mitigating dispute in commercial sports, the proposed Sports Development Bill must have Sports Ombudsman for sports disputes at various levels.
(PTI) The proposed National Sports Development Bill (NSDB) has regulations which might strengthen the stranglehold of the government and threaten the independence of National Sports Federations (NSF) and Indian Olympic Association (IOA), according to a FICCI survey.
As per the survey by the industry body, the preliminary draft of the bill falls far short of the expectations of NSFs and professionals as it does little to address the problems dogging the overall development of sports.
The survey, conducted in the north, central and south campus colleges of Delhi University in addition to CEO's and senior officials of corporate India having interest in sports, reveals that there is an imperative need to bring transparency and accountability in the functioning of NSFs.
A whopping 93.9 per cent of the respondents were in favour of bringing all the NSFs under the RTI scanner.

France's Christine Lagarde and Mexico's Agustin Carstens were shortlisted to lead the International Monetary Fund; the new managing director would be announced by 30th June."The Executive Board will meet with the candidates in Washington and, thereafter, meet to discuss the strengths of the candidates and make a selection," the official IMF statement said on Tuesday.
The two were the only ones named when the IMF released the list after nominations closed on Friday.The IMF did not explain why Israel's Stanley Fischer, who only declared himself at the last minute, was not on the list.Two other possibles, a South African minister and Kazakhstan's central bank head, dropped out Friday.

Inter State Amateur Golf Championship
13th June, Coimbatore:Nksagar-Sagar Media Inc;The Indian Golf Union , in association with Par Sports Leisure Adventure Management Pvt. Ltd. (SLAM G), announced The Inter State Amateur Golf Championship at Coimbatore Golf Club to be played from 14h June – 17th June, 2011. This is the second leg of the nine categorized tournaments of the Indian Amateur Tour 2011.
The Indian Golf Union has contributed immensely to the development of Amateur golf in India both at Junior and Amateur level for men and women. Indian Golf Union conducts all National Championships, the Inter - state Tournament is a Tournament wherein Teams from all State Associations whether or not affiliated to the Indian Golf Union participate. The Indian Golf Union already has many affiliated State Golf Associations. The Inter State Golf Tournament is a National Championship in which the Team and Individual championship is played concurrently over four days. The Team Championship of the States is decided on the basis of the Teams Gross combined score over 4 days. The Winner of the Individual Championship is the player with the lowest Gross Score over 72 holes. This effort on the part of Indian Golf Union goes a long way in broad basing the game in various states of the country and also provide incentives to the State associations to get actively involved in the Organisation of Golf competitions at State level.
About 31 teams from nine states and three teams from the Services will participate in this prestigious Tournament. The Championship format is such that it will be rotated annually between all the four regions. Any state golf association whether or not affiliated to The Indian Golf Union can nominate up to a maximum of three teams to play in this event. Each team shall consist of two players provided both players are of 6 handicap or lower and the handicaps must be certified by their home clubs as well as State Associations. In case team nomination is not received from any state by the registration date, tournament director is authorized to form the teams based on the player’s standing in the IGU order of Merit list/ handicaps. This also being a team event half way cut will not be applicable to players representing their states. Their scores, however, will not be counted for the Order of Merit List points incase they fail to make the regular cut.

Balkrishna:Satyaghraha against corruption and black money is on
Baba Ramdev broke fast by consuming juice given to him by Sri Sri Ravishankar.
Sri Sri Ravishankar and spiritual leader Morari Bappu urged him to end his fast on Sunday.Morari Bapu, a religious leader, said, "I have been associated with Ramdev through spirituality and I came to meet him and to take stock of his health. I am happy to note that he has broken the fast and taken juice. Whatever message he wanted to give has been given."
Ramdev, who went on his hunger strike to protest against corruption and black money issues, was admitted to the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences here on Friday after his condition deteriorated at his Patanjali Yogapeeth ashram in Haridwar. Vijay Dhasmana, hospital director, said, "I am thankful to everyone who came here and helped Ramdev to break his fast. His health is not such that he can be discharged on Sunday.The doctors in a medical bulletin said that Ramdev will be in hospital for two more days and will be discharged after that.Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy who was present in the hospital when Ramdev broke his fast.Ramdev's close aide Balkrishna said, "Baba Ramdev has ended his fast but the satyaghraha against corruption and black money is on."
The BJP welcomed Ramdev's decision to end his fast. Welcoming the decision, BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy held the Congress responsible for the aggravated situation in the country. he said, "The Congress is trying to portray those who are fighting against corruption as enemies of the nation."
Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal also paid him a visit in the hospital on Sunday.
Parkash Singh Badal extended his support to Ramdev and said he is with the yoga guru in his fight.Doctors attending to him on Sunday said that his condition was stable and his vital signs are all normal. They advised Ramdev to end his fast.

Mobile handsets market to touch USD 63 billion by 2012

India’s premier diversified / technology, telecom (and entrepreneurship) research firm CyberMedia Research expects the India telecom services and mobile handsets market to grow at 16.7% in 2012 (over 2011) to touch revenues of Rs 288,832 crore or USD 63 billion.
Of this, the telecom services (including mobile and fixed line services) will contribute Rs 2,05,454 Crore (USD 45 billion) in 2012. The India mobile handsets market, that includes featurephones and smartphones, will grow at a CAGR of over 30 percent during 2012 to touch revenues of Rs 83,377 crore (USD 18 billion).
This has been revealed by CMR’s 2-part study of the India ICT Industry titled “India IT, ITeS and Telecom Services and Mobile Handsets Industry MarketViewpoint 2011”.
In the five year period between 2010 and 2014, the India Telecoms industry will grow at a CAGR of 15.8% to touch revenues of Rs 3,77,683 crore or USD 82 billion.

In its continuous efforts to implement the e-Panchayat concept the Ministry of Panchayati Raj has advised the States/UTs that based on the ISNA & BPR conducted, re-engineering of 28 existing citizen centric services is required. In many States, new services have been demanded by citizens through the Panchayats. The States accordingly need to devolve these functions to the Panchayats and implement the revised processes. e-Panchayat would deliver these services more economically and efficiently.
The Ministry has also reiterated that ss given in the DPR, State specific applications should be developed by the States in consultation with MoPR/NIC team to ensure interoperability of these packages at the design stage itself.
