India- Australia cooperation and collaboration in coal sector

India- Australia Discuss Bilateral Cooperation in Coal Sector India and Australia would further explore the possibilities to increase bilateral cooperation and collaboration in coal sector which will include transfer of technology for underground mining and facilitating invest in Indian coal sector. This was decided in a meeting held between Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal, Minister of Coal and Australian Minister for Resources and Energy and Minister for Tourism, Mr. Martin Ferguson here today.

During discussion today both the countries decided to have meeting of joint coal task force in December this year to review the bilateral cooperation in identified areas under the action plan signed between the countries in May this year. It was felt that there is a big scope to strengthen cooperation in the area of coal technology reducing emission, rehabilitation of abandoned coal mines, and extraction of deep seated coal resources and to facilitate investment in coal mining areas. India and Australia have signed the Coal Action Plan 2011-14 and setup a joint task force to strengthen cooperation in coal sector.

During the meeting, Secretary Coal, Shri Alok Perti and senior officials of the ministry were also present.

India asks Pakistan curb terrorism from its soil

 

India on Wednesday discussed the key issue of terrorism with Pakistan in the backdrop of shrinking trust deficit. During his meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar at the convention centre in Gan, Maldives, the External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told Islamabad not to allow terrorism from its soil and sought speedy trial of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case.

In turn, Khar assured that her country will not allow its soil to be used for such acts. The Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan held talks ahead of the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the two countries on the sidelines of the SAARC summit in Maldives tomorrow. Official sources said India also raised the issue of Pakistani judicial commission's visit to India in connection with the Mumbai attack case. The sources said that during the meeting, both leaders discussed issues of bilateral interests and agreed that terrorism was a threat to both countries.

Shastri Under-21 women's hockey:India & Germany Win

India at the second half began with spirited aggressive tone, building strong attack from the left but New Zealand plyed well in defense thus escaped unscathed.India with lead of 2-1 bowed down to new Zealand at 43 minute as the visitors played aggresive r game and Tara Hal converted a penalty-corner to bring Kiwis to level the score 2-2 thus back in the match.Kiwis player much physically strong and tough Kiwis tried efforts but luck eluded their way as they came hard on the Indian goal. Host Team, played smart hockey with good passes and well dribbling technique to sealed the match when skipper Poonam Rani scored from a penalty-corner in the 68th minute taking the score to 3-2."We played attacking hockey in the first half but they came back strongly in the next one. I am happy with the way the girls played; it has given me more hope of finishing the tournament on a high," said an elated skipper Rani.

Germany strike at an early by Rebecca Grote to score a convincing 3-1 victory over Australia.Rebecca scored in the third minute to give her side an early lead,  Australians leveled in the 41st minute.

Germans took control of the match five minutes later with a strike from Marilena Kraub.Lisa-Marie Keim then scored a goal in the final minute to seal Australia's fate.

Introducing the Swiss dual-track VET system in selected locations in India will also be considered within this context. The Swiss-Indian VET initiative was launched by the Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology (OPET) together with the Swiss-Indian Chamber of Commerce (SICC).

Lal Bahadur Shastri Under-21 Four Nation women's hockey tournament

New Delhi:Lal Bahadur Shastri hockey tournament committee announced the launch of 22 nd event itinerary starts from Tuesday semi &final match to be played on 12 Nov 2011.
22nd Lal Bahadur Shastri Under-21 Four Nation women's hockey tournament is all set to begin tomorrow at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi.. Team participating the event are hosts India, Australia, Germany and New Zealand.

Speaking to media Chairman of the Committee Sqn Ldr kamal Chaudhary said,"our aim is to popularize,encourage and assist in improving the standard of sports in general and hockey in particular,we wish to inculcate discipline and sporty spirit amongst the young women players and teams."

 Germany will take on Australia, the second match  India will play New Zealand later in the first day. Chairman of the tournament organising committee, Squadron Leader Kamal Chaudhary informed this today. He said that Delhi's Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will inaugurate the opening ceremony of the championship, which will be held over a period of five days. The tournament schedule of total of eight matches, starting from the round robin league and leading to the finals.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust Signs MoU with Venice Port Authority Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Venice Port Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) in Chennai today in the presence of the Union Minister of Shipping Shri G. K. Vasan. JNPT was represented by Shri L.Radhakrishnan, Chairman, JNPT and the Venice Port Authority was represented by Capt. Antonio Revedin. Terming today’s event as an important milestone for Indo-Italian trade co-operation Shri Vasan said, these two ports entered into a new era of mutual friendship in maritime activities.

Trade between Europe and India existed since ancient times, but the post Independence era saw the import of machinery etc. from Europe including machineries for small and medium enterprises from Italy and export of textiles, carpets and leather etc to Italy. From the nineties onwards with the advent of globalization and integration of Europe, the trade has become stronger and therefore relationships between port businesses in Italy and India have got strengthened.

Regarding both the ports the Minister said, “JNPT is the largest port in India for solids handling and in containers they have a market share of about 55% among the major ports in India during the last year, while Venice port is one of the important European ports for break bulk and project cargo traffic. JNPT expects to strengthen its relationship with the Port of Venice and enhance direct shipping to and from the Port of Venice. This is bound to be a mutually advantageous relationship not only for the two Ports but for the manufacturing and trade sectors of both the countries. With over 2 million passengers per year, the Port of Venice is the first home port for cruise ships in the Mediterranean Sea. The expertise of Port of Venice in Cruise shipping could also be shared with JNPT in order that this expanding segment of tourism can develop faster in India.”

Referring to India’s trade with the Europe Shri Vasan said, “Ever since European Union has become a reality, the Government of India has been particularly focusing on Indo-European trade and commerce. India had a special relationship with England post-independence, which naturally meant the greater exchange of products between the two countries.” Regarding Italy he said that it is an important trading partner for India. The Port of Venice is uniquely placed not only to focus business from the Italian hinterland but also from the north Adriatic region and Central Europe where high growth potential exists. He expressed the hope that this MoU between JNPT and the Port of Venice will lead to the achievement of the above mentioned broad objectives of the respective countries and regions as well as mutual help and collaboration between these two important world ports in the areas of port operations, port management, marine construction and human resource development.

Kamal Nath gives approval of RRTS for NCR

Kamal Nath gives “in-principle” approval to the concept proposal of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) for NCR; emphasizes on need to focus on effective sub-urbanization in the region Urban Development Minister Mr. Kamal Nath has approved “in-principle” the concept proposal of implementing Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in three important corridors in the NCR viz. Delhi-Gurgaon-Alwar, Delhi-Sonepat-Panipat and Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut. Mr. Nath directed the NCR Planning Board(NCRPB) to explore innovative funding mechanisms like exploiting transit-oriented development potential, monetization of land and PPP model for implementing these capital-intensive projects. He said that high speed connectivity between the regional centres of NCR and Delhi will make the physical distance shorter and allow these regional towns to capture the economic impulse and density generated by Delhi. He emphasized that the RRTS should be integrated with the Delhi Metro. This faster connectivity will reduce pressure on the National Capital’s infrastructure by opening up the region including regional housing market.

The Minister stressed that in order to achieve the rationale of creation of NCR in 1985, it would be necessary to focus on the sub-urbanization process and infrastructure development outside Delhi to enable other areas of NCR to absorb the load on the capital’s resources. Accordingly, he desired NCRPB to take lead in planning and developing greenfield townships on these transport corridors in partnership with the concerned state governments and directed NCRPB to explore the possibility of drawing from world-class experiences and best practices with the help of technical assistance from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The minister while reviewing the NCR Regional Plan-2021 proposals regarding regional-level land use and settlement policies emphasized on the implementation aspect and said that the NCRPB should be more pro-active in enforcing the policies prescribed in the Regional and Functional Plans as these have been finalized in consultation with the participating states and have been agreed to by the highest levels in the state since the Chief Ministers of all the participating states are members of the NCR Board. He said adherence of these policies by various central and state implementing agencies and NCRPB’s active role in enforcing them is necessary, if we are to avoid haphazard developments and achieve harmonized and balanced development of the National Capital Region.

Mr. Kamal Nath, who is also the Chairman of the National Capital Region Planning Board was reviewing the implementation status of the plans and proposals relating to the NCR on Thursday 3rd November in Delhi. The meeting was attended by the Secreatry (UD), Govt. of India, Chief Secretary, GNCT of Delhi, the Vice-chairman, DDA, Member Secretary, NCRPB and other senior officials of central and participating states.
