India retain second spot amass 11 Gold

06.10.2010 18:45:00 India's Gold rush in the Commonwealth Games continued for the second consecutive day as shooters, weightlifters and wrestlers got the hosts six more golds on Wednesday.

(live-PR.com) - An inspired display, India's athletes gave a big impetus to the country's ambitious target of finishing second in the Commonwealth Games by hauling up 13 medals, including six gold, on a productive third day today.India continued to rule the roost at the Dr Karni Singh shooting range by grabbing six medals, including three gold, while more success came from the weightlifing arena and wrestling mat, ensuring that the hosts retained the second position behind Australia.

Weightlifters Renu Bala Chanu (women's 58kg) and K Ravi Kumar (69kg), set a new Games record, along with 55kg Greco-Roman grappler Rajender Kumar, provided the last three gold to make it the most fruitful day for the country.Shooting:

World champion Gagan Narang led the shooting team in its gold medal hunt. Gagan set the range on fire winning the gold in 10 meter air rifle competiton with a world record, pushing compatriot Olympian Abhinav Bindra to the second place. The second gold of the day was bagged by Anisa Sayyed in the 25 meters women's pistol event while Omkar Singh clinched the third gold medal in the 50 meters pistol competition.

The junior world champion Asher Noria and World No. 3 Ronjan Sodhi teamed up to net the silver in the men's pairs double trap. Rahi Sarnobat also bagged a silver in the 25 meter women pistol event.

Weightlifting and Wrestling

Two other golds which came India's way were from weightlifting and wrestling taking the gold tally to ten.In the weightlifting, Renu Bala Chanu won the gold in the women's 58 kilogram category. K. Ravi Kumar bagged the second gold in the 69 kilogram.
Wrestler Rajinder Kumar brought laurels for the country by winning gold in 55 kilogram in greco roman category. Manoj kumar bagged the silver while Sunil kumar and Dharmender Dalal got bronze medals in wrestling.

Indian swimmer Prasanth Karmakar created history by winning the first ever medal in the pool, getting the bronze in 50 meters free style in para spor.

Para sport swimmer Sachin Verma has also entered the final of 50 meters S9 Freestyle men's category.
