Indian Men and Women team face very close defeats


Indian Men and Women team face very close defeats at the first day of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Bengaluru, 5th April 2018: The Indian Basketball campaign at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games started off with two back to back very close losses. Indian Women’s Team lost 57-66 to Jamaica in a very competitive game whereas the Men’s team lost 87-96 to Cameroon in a game where Cameroon had an unbelievable comeback and took the game away from India’s hands.
India’s Basketball campaign started with the women’s team taking on Jamaica and the game started with a very competitive first quarter with Jamaica leading India by only 2 points, Jamaica had an early lead but thanks to 3 consecutive three pointers by Indian Captain Shireen Limaye that got India back into the game. The following quarters went the same way as India displayed some beautiful ball movement which helped them keep up to pace with Jamaica’s Jennifer George who ended up scoring 19 points along with 19 rebounds. The last quarter started with India lacking by 5 points, but due to consecutive turnovers from the Indian side Jamaica managed to secure an 11 point lead midway through the fourth quarter. India pushed hard on defence but wasn’t able to score on the turnovers of the Jamaican team in the final minutes of the Game. Captain Shireen Limaye led the Indian team with 18 points whereas Forward Jeena Scaria added 12 points.

Next up Indian Men’s Team started their game against Cameroon on a very high noted taking a 12 point lead in the first quarter of the game given India’s exceptional three point shooting performance in the first quarter. Second quarter of the game saw India dominate Cameroon with the help of Forward Amjyot Singh Gill showcasing his offensive expertise and creating a 24 point lead before going to half time. The second half of the game was completely different as Cameroon’s Arnold Kome lead his team to an unexpected comeback cutting down the lead to 12 points at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Cameroon continued on their impressive offensive run as India was unable to convert on their attempts in the fourth quarter and ended the game with a loss.
India surely missed one of their biggest stars Amritpal Singh who didn’t play today due to a left knee injury that happened during the practice sessions.

Experts and Chief Executives of the companies providing services in various sectors of the industry were invited to discuss the current situation of the service industry in contemporary India. Prominent speakers include Jyoti Prakash Gadia,MD Resurgent India Limited, Anirban Banik, Associate Director,  Protviti Consulting Pvt , Ltd,  Narinder Wadhwa, MD, SKI Capital services Ltd, and Jyoti Kaur, Deputy Director General, Services Export Promotion Council, New Delhi.
In the technical session, “Healthcare and Wellness for a healthy India”, Kshitij Garg, Founder  Healers at Home, Rajesh Mundra, CEO, Truworth Wellness, Ranjita Shaw, Director of Public Relations and Communications, Roseate Hotels & Resorts, and Aditya Sharma, C0-Founder , Helfis technologies Pvt Ltd in their presentation discussed opportunities and challenges in the healthcare and wellness sector. According to them, India needs a strong health system in order to protect the health of the people and build up a healthy and strong India.
In the technical session, “Capacity Building in Financial Services through Fintech,” Adhil Shetty, Founder & CEO, Bankbazar and Sanglap Banerjee, Senior VP- Corporate Strategy & Fintech YES BANK illustrated the challenges faced by financial sectors. They also discussed the importance of the financial sector to provide opportunities to entrepreneurs.
In the Valedictory session, “Indian Media and Entertainment Industry wooing the Global Audience”.  SC Aggarwal, Chairman & Managing Director, SMC Global Securities Ltd, Sandeep Marwah, President Marwah Studios have discussed the current growth of media and entertainment industry in India. They said there is a plenty of opportunities in both the sectors. Today, Global stakeholders are looking at India. Media and entertainment industry have been the chief contributor of employment generations. Sandeep Marwah told the audience that entertainment industry is the biggest industry in India producing 25,00 films in a year in 28 languages. It is a great achievement. Sandeep Marwah also told the audience that 12,000 theaters  are operational. Noida Film City which is one of the biggest film city in the world.
Shankar Aggarwal, officer on duty, ASSOCHAM, in his concluding remarks stressed on financial inclusion of the disadvantaged people of the country. He further said without financial inclusion, safety and sustainability of any industry in India cannot be maintained. In his address, he urged the industry people to set up projects such as Film City in smaller towns so that the people from other parts of the state do not need to migrate to seek employment.
Sandeep Jajodia, President, ASSOCHAM in his welcome address apprised the audience that ASSOCHAM is always there to extend help to the service industry at national and international level.

Court find Park Geun-hye guilty of abuse of power gets 24 Yrs Jail

South Korea’s former President Park Geun-hye is found guilty of corruption and sentenced to 24 years in prison.
A court convicted Park of conspiring with her longtime friend and unofficial advisor, Choi Soon-sil, determining Park received millions of dollars in bribes from Samsung Group, the country’s largest conglomerate.
The court also ruled she pressured private companies to give money to 2 foundations closely associated with Choi. Choi is now serving a 20 year prison sentence for the crimes pending an appeal.
The convictions stem from a corruption scandal that engulfed the country in late 2016.
Massive protests rocked South Korea’s politics and Park was eventually impeached.
Park’s lawyers are expected to appeal her jail sentence.
Seoul Central District Court in its verdict on former South Korean president Park Geun-Hye on bribery and other charges.South Korea’s former President Park Geun-hye is found guilty of abuse of power.
The ruling has  come on Friday afternoon.
Park was dismissed in March of last year when the Constitutional Court upheld her impeachment. She was indicted the following month.
Park was charged with conspiring with a longtime confidante, Choi Soon-sil, to receive bribes worth about 40 million dollars from Samsung Group, the country’s largest conglomerate. The figure includes sums that were promised.
Prosecutors sought a 30-year prison term for Park and a fine of over 111 million dollars. They say she tarnished the history of national politics by abusing presidential authority for her friend.
Park has consistently proclaimed her innocence.

PM Nepal arrives in India

Prime Minister of Nepal K.P. Sharma Oli and Mrs. Radhika Shakya were warmly welcomed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh on their arrival in India. This is the first State visit of Prime Minister Oli after being elected as Prime Minister of Nepal.

Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli to begin his three-day visit to India from today; will hold bilateral talks with PM Narendra Modi and will also call on President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu.
He will visit Pantnagar in Uttarakhand and attend a program organised at Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology.

Salman is prisoner No. 106 at Jodhpur jail

Jodhpur Jail, sojourn for Bollywood star Salman Khan will be prisoner no. 106,  be sharing the barrack with jailed godman Asaram Bapu.
Salman  to be served food according to jail menu and will not be allowed to get food from outside, Indian Today reported.
The police said that all security arrangements in the jail are in place.
