OZ -Townvila braces floods

Australia, more than a thousand residents are taking shelter from flooding.
Record rainfall is battering the northeastern state of Queensland and hundreds of homes have been inundated.
Officials say the coastal city of Townsville has experienced more than one meter of rain in a week. That beats the previous record from some 20 years ago. Officials say as many as 20,000 homes are at risk of damage.
The downpours have forced officials to deliberately open the floodgates in a nearby dam as the rain pushed it beyond its capacity.
Rescuers helped residents leave their homes and make it to evacuation centers.
Weather authorities are warning there'll be more heavy rains accompanied by destructive winds in the coming days.
