Dear Mr. Sagar
Greetings from Pahle India Foundation (PIF) and YES Bank Ltd.!
The Expert Committee constituted by RBI in January 2019 considers it necessary that a comprehensive review is undertaken to identify causes and propose long term solutions, for the economic and financial sustainability of the MSME sector. Based on our previous work in the sector, one of the contentious issues has been the basis of definition of MSMEs, whether it should remain the same or other parameters such as annual turnover or employment should be considered. Through a dedicated seminar on the topic, we aim to explore this debate further, supported by international practices, which can be emulated by India.
The definition of MSMEs is important and useful in the preparation of statistics and monitoring of health of the sector over time; in benchmarking against other economies and between regions within an economy; and in determining eligibility of development programmes.
With this in mind, Pahle India Foundation and YES Bank Ltd. are organising the 11th edition of our monthly MSME seminars, on “Defining MSMEs”. The objective of the seminar is to contribute to policy advancement in this important area, by marshalling the available expertise and experience.
The Seminar will be held in New Delhi on May 8, 2019 at Seminar Hall 1 & 2, India International Centre, 40, Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi – 110 003, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
We are writing to invite you to the seminar. We hope to submit a policy brief, that summarises the discussion, to the regulators and government of India, to try and push the policy forward.
The discussants for the session are:
- Shri Ram Mohan Mishra, AS & DC, Ministry of MSME (Chair)
