I will not allow BJP to demolish unauthorised colonies in Delhi : Arvind Kejriwal

Statement of AAP national convenor & Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in his press conference today (Wednesday, 8th May) :    

The Modi government during the last two years destroyed the livelihood of a large number of people due to sealing and rendered them unemployed due to shutting down of their shops, factories and other establishments. 

I have been made aware of the Modi government’s plan to demolish unauthorised colonies of Delhi. 

Three-four months back, we started the development works in unauthorised colonies on a war footing. Lanes, drains, water and sewer pipelines works were initiated and I myself went to inaugurate these works in unauthorised colonies. 

When these developmental works actually started on the ground, some central government officers had revealed that the Modi government plans to demolish and get rid of the unauthorised colonies in Delhi. Modi government wants to hand over the land on which unauthorised colonies exist to big private builders, who are rich and powerful. 

Please think for a while, 60 to 70 % population of Delhi resides in these colonies, if such large tracts of land are handed over to big private builders, imagine the scale of the scam. 

Recently BJP’s Manoj Tiwari publically conceded that the Modi government would demolish unauthorised colonies and would replace these colonies with high-rise buildings, in which residents of unauthorised colonies will be given flats. 

Atleast Manoj Tiwari admitted that the Modi government has such a plan. Imagine the scale of destruction Delhi will have to go through, in case 70 % of the population is uprooted. 

I have been made aware of the Modi government plan, and let me make it clear that once their land is snatched from the residents of unauthorised colonies, they will not be rehabilitated in flats of high rise buildings. Tenants residing in unauthorised colonies will be rendered homeless. 

According to the Modi government plan, no GPA holder will get anything. Only the original land owners, meaning that the land was agricultural and the owners sold land by cutting into plots – therefore only a handful of original land owners will be compensated in flast allotment and the entire land will be handed over to private builders. 

A lot of pressure was put on our government when we initiated on a war footing the developmental works in unauthorized colonies, we were told we are wasting money on unauthorised colonies, since all these will be eventually demolished. 

I want to make it loud and clear that human beings reside in unauthorised colonies of Delhi and not animals. People of our own country reside in these colonies, they are our own and till the time Kejriwal is alive no power on earth can demolish their homes. I will fight for these colonies till my last breath. 

Without demolishing any colony, we will develop these and will provide all basic and good facilities in these colonies and we will beautify theses colonies. Roads, drains, street lights, and parks will be built there. Drinking water will be provided and I want to make it clear that wherever any one is living in these colonies, they will get all the facilities there only. 

We are committed to opening registries for GPA holders to give them a life of respect. Both the BJP and Congress deceived the residents of unauthorised colonies for 70 years and have humiliated them. BJP and Congress have used residents of unauthorised colonies or votes and the latest plan of Modi government is extremely dangerous. 

I appeal to the people of Delhi that if you want to save Delhi hand over a resounding defeat to the BJP this time. 

Strengthen our hands. Till now, when the BJP unleashed injustice on traders, I stood by them with all dedication and as Chief Minister of Delhi whatever powers were available to me, I fought for the traders rights and protected them till wherever I could. Now give me all the seven seats and I will save Delhi. 

There is a strong buzz to actually find out the real reason behind the sealing in Delhi. It is well known that the previous Congress government wanted to bring FDI in retail and that would have only been possible if the small traders were destroyed. Now it is apparent and clear that the Modi government too has cosied upto big MNCs and wants to bring FDI in retail and for that largescale sealing was carried out in Delhi to ruin small businesses and shops. 

I want to know that the traders who built BJP by their blood and sweat, why did the Modi government want to ruin these traders totally ? Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi is addressing a rally in Delhi’s historic Ram Lila Maidan today evening. People of Delhi have the following questions for Mr Modi :

1)      Why was sealing carried out in Delhi which ruined the livelihoods of poor traders and their employees ? Why shops, factories and commercial establishments had to shut down ? why did the Modi government not bring an ordinance to stop sealing ? Will Mod ji tell the people of Delhi what is his government’s deal with MNCs ? 

2)      Modi ji when you came to the Ram Lila Maidan last time in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, you had said you will provide full statehood to Delhi and on that basis you sought seven Lok Sabha MPs, but after coming to power why did you deceive Delhi ? what is your stand on full statehood for Delhi now ? 

3)      Modi ji what are your relations with Pakistan ? Why does Imran Khan want to see you as Prime Minister of India again ? Why was the elected Chief Minister of Delhi attacked for questioning Prime Minister’s Pakistan relations ?
