WD to spell North India Rain ,Snow

A western disturbance (WD) northwest of Rajasthan is progressing eastward in India. The WD’s induced cyclonic circulation is likely to cause scattered snow or rain with thunderstorms in the higher reaches of northern and central India on Monday.

Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may experience scattered rain or snow, thunderstorms and hailstorms. The northern plains may also witness isolated rain with thunderstorms and dust storms, namely in states like Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

A cyclonic circulation is located over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. It is likely to bring heavy rain or snow and thunderstorms over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya. In addition, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may also experience scattered rain and thunderstorms.

The trough pushed from Telangana to Kanyakumari will cause heavy rain and thunderstorm in Kerala. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands are likely to receive isolated rainfall.

Isolated rain and thunderstorms are also likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

Maximum temperatures of 40°C or more are likely over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Tuesday & Beyond

The prevailing western disturbance’s activity will abate on Tuesday. However, another round of snow/rainfall will start to affect northern India on Thursday due to the next WD.

Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may receive scattered rain or snow, thunderstorms, and hailstorms. Isolated rains and thunderstorms are also likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Thunder with heavy rain is expected to continue due to the cyclonic circulation over Arunachal Pradesh through the week. Later, the WD is likely to approach this region and feed the intensity and the coverage of the existing circulation. Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya may experience heavy rain or snow and thunderstorms. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, on the other hand, are also likely witness scattered rain and thunderstorms as well.

Down south, isolated rain and thunderstorms will continue in Kerala and adjoining states through the week. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are likely to receive isolated rainfall.

Isolated rain and thunderstorms are also likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

Maximum temperatures will be cooler or much cooler than normal in northern plains because the WD will pass through this week. Even though they are much cooler than normal, the maximum temperature in Delhi will be in the upper 30s, or touching 40°C this week.

Rajasthan and Gujarat will also experience ‘cooler than normal’ temperatures late in this period due to onshore winds. Maximum temperatures of more than 40°C will be expected over western, central, southern, and eastern India this week. Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu will experience the highest temperatures on Tuesday.
