Corruption, black money and inflation dominated the debate on the motion of thanks to the President's address to the joint sitting of Parliament. While the ruling Congress hailed the steps taken by the government to deal with corruption, the main opposition BJP launched a scathing attack doubting its intention in tackling the menace.
Initiating the debate in Lok Sabha Mr P.C. Chacko of the Congress said the Prime Minister's announcement on setting up of a JPC showed his sincerity and commitment in dealing with the controversial 2G Scam. Participating in the debate Manish Tiwari of Congress questioned BJP on what it had had done in Karnataka as also when it was in power at the Centre.
SP Leader Mulayam Singh Yadav criticized the government for not taking effective steps in dealing with burning issues being faced by the common man. Members of some other parties while participating in the debate spoke on expected lines.
In the Rajya Sabha , Janardhan Dwivedi of the Congress, said that government is according top priority to getting rid of corruption and the President's address had dealt with it extensively. In the Rajya Sabha, Jayanthi Natarajan of Congress said that the government had taken prompt actions in wake of the 2G spectrum scam.
Maitreyan of AIADMK alleged the UPA government has failed to control rising inflation .He also demanded strengthening India's naval presence off Tamil Nadu coast in the wake of killing of fishermen by Sri Lankan forces.
Launching a frontal attack, Mr Rajnath Singh of the BJP charged the government with adopting delaying tactics in handling corruption. Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mr Arun Jaitley criticised the UPA government saying that it lacked competence in governance. Mohan Singh of SP, Ashok S Ganguly nominated and some other members participated in the debate which will continue in both houses on Wednesday.
