Opposition blames Govt for corruption

Opposition kept up their attack on the government blaming it for corruption and failure in containing Maoist violence.During the resumed debate in Rajya Sabha on the Motion of Thanks on President's Address, members of BJP and the Left were one in attacking government on the issue of Telangana, corruption and price rise.
Gyan Prakash Pilania, BJP said the UPA government had failed on all fronts especially on parameters like extremism, price rise and corruption."Crisis of credibility plagues the nation," he said.

Brajesh Pathak (BSP) sought clearance of an airport project in Jewar near Greater Noida.He said the project has not been cleared despite the state government sending the proposal completing all the formalities.Supporting the demand for a separate Telangana state, Pathak said his party is in favour of smaller states.Uttar Pradesh should also be divided into smaller states and BSP has written to the Centre about the same, he said.
Barun Mukherjee (AIFB) charged Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee with being in alliance with the Maoists in West Bengal.He said the Congress was not only keeping quiet but was also in electoral alliance with Trinamool Congress for the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.Mukherjee said that Banerjee was making announcements about expansion of Railways in West Bengal with an eye on the state polls.

Prabha Thakur (Cong) praised the Prime Minister for taking action in corruption cases. She said the Prime Minister had himself spoken to DMK supremo M Karunanidhi on A Raja, former Telecom Minister.Ram Kripal Yadav (RJD) held both the UPA and BJP responsible for misgovernance which fuelled corruption and anarchy in the country.

His remark that both were two facets of the same coin, drew protests from the Opposition benches. Yadav said two lakh farmers had been driven to suicide in the last two years.Raashid Alvi (Cong) said NDA which was raising much hue and cry over how the Prime Minister inducted a cabinet colleague like Raja, has perhaps forgotten how it had allotted defence portfolio to George Fernandes.

"It is the prerogative of the PM to induct anybody in his Cabinet," was the reply by NDA then, Alvi said, adding in the present case charges were blown out of proportion despite the government yielding to Opposition demand for setting up a JPC.

Janardhan Waghmare (NCP) said the government has already announced constituting JPC over 2G spectrum allocation.B Jayashree (Nom) in her maiden speech demanded setting up a National Academy for Children and stressed the need for elementary education through regional languages.Academies to promote art and culture should be set up on the pattern of IITs/IIMs to revive rich Indian culture and tradition, she said.
