Ayman al-Zawahiri new chief of al-Qaeda
Ayman al-Zawahiri is named as the new leader of al-Qaeda, following the death of Osama Bin Laden.The Egyptian militant is known to be highly intelligent,and according report on Al Arabiya television aired on Thursday, the Egyptian-born Zawahri have been elected leader of al-Qaeda. "The general leadership of al-Qaida group,after wrapping up its consultations, announces that the appointment of Sheikh Ayman Zawahri as the leader of the group," the Islamist website said in a statement.Jawahari voweed to step up Al Qaida's campaign against the United States and its allies.Al-Qaeda warns of continue to fight a holy war against the US and Israel under Zawahiri's direction.Egyptian-born Zawahri, a 60-year-old surgeon, has been hiding since the United States's announcement of war on terror in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington.Media agencies
