Food Security Bill to come in public domain after Law Ministry’s approval-
Food and Public Distribution Minister Prof K V Thomas has said that Food Security Bill will be put in public domain after the approval by Law ministry. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Prof. Thomas said that the draft bill would be put on the Internet for eliciting public views before it is placed in front of Cabinet. He added that centre is taking steps to create additional storage capacity of more than 150 lakh metric tonnes across 19 states. The Minister also advised the state governments to set up more storage godowns through Public Private Partnership models.
Our correspondent reports that the draft bill entitles seven kg of food grains per month per person for Below Poverty Line, BPL citizens. The bill also states that food grains will be supplied to BPL citizens via ration shops at highly subsidized prices which include rice for three rupees and wheat at two rupees per kilogram.
