The newest American Chemical Society's (ACS) award-winning "Global Challenges/Chemistry Solutions" podcast reveals that scientists believe banana peels are an effective way to purify drinking water contaminated with potentially toxic metals, according to eurekalert.org.
Minced banana peels seem to be better than traditional purification materials, stated the article.
