Basketball: India Women’s team heads to Japan

Basketball: India Women’s team heads to Japan for FIBA Asia Championship-
India’s Senior Women’s Basketball team will leave for Japan on Thursday night to take part in the to the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women in Omura-Nagasaki from August 21-28, 2011. The Basketball Federation of India is sending 12 players, four officials, and two official FIBA referees as part of their contingent
The players that India will send Japan for this prestigious tournament will be the same who represented India at the William Jones Cup in Taiwan last week, except for one change: Forward/Center Harjeet Kaur has been excluded from the team due to an injury and has been replaced by Sonika Ohylan.
The team will be led by American coach Pete Gaudet.

India have been placed in Level I of the Championship, along with champions China, hosts Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Lebanon. In Level II, the teams are Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Singapore.
