“Remembering Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore”

Sangeet Natak Akademi today paid its tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his 71st Punya Tithi. On this occasion a programme “Remembering Rabindranath Tagore” was held at the National Museum Auditorium,  inaugurated by Hon’ble Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, wherein Hon’ble Minister of Culture Kumari Selja was the chief guest and Hon’ble Minister of Railways Mr. Dinesh Trivedi was also present to pay his tribute to Gurudev on the occasion.  Noted Indian Artists Aftab Seth and Bahauddin Dagar performed later in the evening.
The first non-European Nobel laureate - Rabindranath Tagore - was remembered today in the capital through a cultural evening organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi and Ministry of Culture and meant to remember the contributions of the great Bangla Polymath.  The programme started with Rabigeetika led by Shri Sudhir Chanda.
Speaking on this occasion Hon’ble Finance Minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee throwed light on the life of the Rabindranath Tagore. He said, “Gurudev was a great soul of humanity and believed in the universal brotherhood throughout his life. His work has dispersed in the whole world and will be cherished for long.”
Hon’ble minister of Culture Kumari Selja also acknowledged the contributions of Gurudev. She said, “Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore continues to be guide and mentor to a large section of creative and thinking people all over the world. The entire range of issues which he had raised engage us even today.”
Where as Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Mr Dinesh Trivedi said that “the whole world is inspired by the creations of Gurudev, as his creations are beyond boundaries and time.” 
Also speaking on the occasion Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Smt Leela Samson stated that the teachings of the Thakurji allow us to review the virtue of human nature. She also said that we are really honoured to have three ministers together, who have come and payed homage and tribute on Thakurji’s Punya Tithi. 
Later in the evening, the audience there witnessed not only the fascinating recitation performance by Sh Aftab Seth which brought together the asianess of Tagore, but was also indulged with soulful Rudra Veena by the well known Hindustani Classical Music player Shri Bahauddin Dagar, who is also the son of famous north Indian musician Zia Mohiuddin Dagar.
