National workshop on naxalism to begin in New Delhi

National workshop begins in New Delhi tomorrow to device an effective mechanism for development of 60 naxal affected districts across the country. An amount of 30 crore rupees will be given to each district for holistic development of these areas. Previously 25 crore rupees were being allocated for the same. Home Minister P Chidambaram will inaugurate the first of its kind workshop. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will also address the event where district collectors from the selected region will share their views on evolving development strategies and reducing naxalism. Meanwhile ahead of the workshop, the government today made it clear that private investment will not be allowed for development of road infrastructure either in the naxal affected regions or the north east. AIR correspondent reports that the Integrated Action Plan was launched last year for development of public infrastructure and other amenities like public health centres, schools, drinking water supply and other facilities in the naxal affected districts.
