Countdown begins for PSLV C-18 launch today

The stage is all set for the launch of PSLV C-18 which will carry the 1000 kg Indo French satellite the Megha Trophiques. After a 50 hour count down the vehicle is ready to soar into space. This is the 20th Polar satellite launch vehicle to be launched from the Sathish Dhawan Space Centre Sriharikota at 11 hours today. As the time for launch is setting in, India is ready to take another proud step forward in the field of space science. ISRO has become a pioneer in carrying out satellite launches not only from its own but also of other countries. Most notable achievement is that more satellites built by young students are injected into spaceMegha Trophique which will piggy back the other three nano satellites would be used to study climatic and atmospheric changes and will redefine prediction models. The SRM sat would be addressing the problem of global warming and pollution levels in the atmosphere by monitoring carbon dioxide and water vapour.

Jugnu sat which is fitted with indigenously developed camera system will study water cycle and energy exchanges in the tropic. The vessel sat carries automatic identification system for ships to detect signals automatically transmitted by vessels at sea in the region covered by the satellite.
