Petrol prices hiked by Rs 1.80 - 1.91 per litre


State-owned oil companies effected yet another hike in petrol price, by Rs 1.80 - 1.91 per litre with effect from midnight Thursday.
"Crude oil has been more or less steady but rupee depreciation is a cause of concern. We have been forced to increase prices because of rupee depreciation," BPCL Chairman and Managing Director R K Singh told said.
The base price has been increased by Rs 1.50 per litre. "Rupee has depreciated from Rs 46.25 a dollar to Rs 49.40, increasing our cost of imports," IOC Director (Finance) P K Goyal said.

The new price of petrol is Rs 68.64 per litre in Delhi (Rs 1.80 increase), Rs 73.15 in Kolkata (Rs 1.87), Rs 73.81 in Mumbai (Rs 1.89) and Rs 72.73 in Chennai (Rs 1.91).
Sources said Oil Minister Jaipal Reddy consulted Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee before oil companies were given a green signal to raise prices.
