Demand Side Management of Electricity   
Secretary, Power Shri P. Uma Shankar has said that energy conservation and energy efficiency are parts of the Government’s strategy to meet growing need of power. He was inaugurating the National Conference on Demand Side Management (DSM) in New Delhi today. He said the schemes such as Bachat Lamp Yojana (BLY) and Standards and Labelling of electrical gadgets have helped in energy saving. He said that there is a large scope for energy saving in the industrial sector, agriculture, municipal street lighting and pumping. He called upon the power utilities and regulators to work out strategies to save power.

The objective of the conference is to promote Demand Side Management, energy efficiency and conservation by deployment of more efficient technologies, consumer education and demonstration of the benefits of DSM. The mission of the conference is to transform the implementation of DSM in the country into a “Mass Movement”. The one day conference being attended by experts from power sector including senior officers of the Ministry of Power, Central Electricity Authority, Bureau of Energy Efficiency , State Governments, Central and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions, electricity distribution utilities, CPSEs of Ministry of Power, CBIP, NGOs and energy efficiency service companies.
