The head of the International Monetary Fund says the global economy is showing signs of stability, but warns of too much optimism for the future.
IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde made the comment in a speech at an economic forum in Beijing on Sunday.Lagarde said financial market conditions are more comfortable and recent economic indicators are beginning to be a little upbeat. She attributed the positive signs to decisions and policy actions by the European Central Bank and others.
She added that the world economy has stepped back from the brink and people have cause to be more optimistic. But Lagarde warned against a false sense of security, citing such risks as huge public and private debts in many advanced countries and rising crude oil prices.
