ASEAN ministers to start cooperation talks
Japan’s Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yukio Edano held a meeting with economic ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Tokyo on Saturday.
They are expected to agree to begin negotiations by the end of the year on economic partnerships among 10 ASEAN members and 6 other nations — Japan, China, South Korea, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
All these countries have already agreed to set up a working group to discuss the liberalization of trade and investment.
The economic ministers are also expected to set a goal for the next 10 years of doubling the value of trade between Japan and ASEAN members, which have economies showing rapid growth.
