German voters reject Merkel's call for tough measures

Merkel the prime server as a driving force to promote austerity measures in Europe in response to the region's debt crisis but the Euro voters across borders in acid test of  result of current  ballot in their respective countries show her policy is not acceptable to common man. German state election  considered a test for next year's general elections, is a major setback for her policies.Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel's ruling party was crushed in Sunday's election in the country's most populous state, delivering a harsh blow to her push for austerity measures. The center-right Christian Democrats gained only 26.3 percent of the votes in North Rhine-Westphalia, an industrial state in western Germany.. The state is home to major cities like Dusseldorf and Cologne. The outcome represents a plunge of more than eight percentage points from the previous election 2 years ago, and is the party's worst showing in the state since World War 2.

Germany's two main opposition parties, the center-left Social Democrats and Greens, won a combined majority of 50.4 percent.Social Democrats garnered support of 39.1 percent, up nearly 5 percentage points from the last election. But national polls so far showed that Merkel's conservatives still claim the most seats in German parliament, before the advent of the national election next year, it is widely tipped that Merkel's CDU will still hold on to the power.
