Leaders of Greece's political parties have made a final appeal to voters for a mandate in Sunday's parliamentary election.Political leaders gave public speeches on the last day of campaigning on Friday. The government's austerity measures, introduced to receive a bailout from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, are the main focus of the election.

The head of one of the two parties in the governing coalition, Evangelos Venizelos, stressed the importance of the austerity measures in Athens. The chief of center-left Panhellenic Socialist Movement, or PASOK, urged people to think twice before voting if they want Greece to remain a euro-zone member.

Panos Kammenos, leader of Independent Greeks, a new right-wing party which is gaining support, urged voters to assist in protecting people's living standards from harm by the austerity measures.
