Hillary Clinton urges Assad to leave Syria

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged Syria's President Bashar al-Assad to leave his country, following a report of another mass killing by Syrian government forces.Clinton spoke to reporters in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday. She referred to the recent massacre of more than 80 people, including women and children, in a central Syrian village.

Clinton said the violence is simply unconscionable. She called on Assad to transfer power and depart Syria.
Clinton urged all countries to impose and implement sanctions against the country. She said coordination needs to be improved among countries that are working with Syrian opposition forces.

Russia and China exhibits cautious about strengthening sanctions against the Assad administration or enforcing a political transition. The two countries have close ties with Syria.

  United States is sending its diplomatic mission with senior State Department officials to Russia for discussions.
