Homeless Residents to protest outside DUSIB Office

Greetings from Shahri Adhikar Manch – Begharon Ke Saath (SAM-BKS)!

Friends, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has been treating CityMakers (homeless residents) in Delhi inhumanly by not providing basic facilities in the shelters. Despite the orders of Hon’ble High Court of Delhi (dated 31.05.2012), DUSIB has refused to take action and several pleas to provide drinking water, fans, and proper sanitation facilities, have been ignored immensely. The situation is such that at a few places (Yamuna Pusta, Majnu Ka Tilla, etc) the tents have collapsed and in many shelters the electric wire is lying open. With monsoons approaching, a disaster is just waiting to happen. Also, there are no fans in the shelters and CityMakers are being forced to sleep in the heat. Drinking water is reaching CityMakers once in four days, that too after desperate calls from CityMakers. Under such circumstances the CityMakers are running out of patience.

In order to make the authorities take note of the issues, CityMakers and Civil Society Organisations will be protesting outside

DUSIB office
Punarvas Bhawan,
Opposite Azad Bhawan,
ITO, New Delhi

from 11 am on June 8, 2012.

Like always, we’ll be extremely grateful if you could please be present in the protest and make the citizens of Delhi, the government and the officials take note of the problems of CityMakers by covering the protest.

We look forward to your continuous support.

Regards,
Abhilasha Sihag.
