Morsi won in Egypt vote

The  vote counting continues in Egypt's presidential run-off election, the Muslim Brotherhood announced on Monday that its candidate Mohamed Morsi has won. The move comes as local media reports that Morsi is leading the race. The run-off in the first presidential election since the ouster of former president Hosni Mubarak was held on Saturday and Sunday. Race is between Morsi and Ahmed Shafiq, a former military commander who served as the last prime minister under Mubarak.

Counting of almost all of the ballots , Morsi's camp declared victory based on its own independent ballot count. It says the number of votes for Morsi surpassed those for Shafiq by about 5 percentage points.
Later, Morsi told reporters that he will work for all Egyptians. This was taken as an effective victory declaration.

Meanwhile, Shafiq's side says ballot counting has not yet ended and that the victory announcement was premature.Egyptians have been asked to choose between a government based on Islamic rules or one which is made up of supporters of the former administration.

Egypt's election administration committee will announce the official results on Thursday. If Morsi's victory is confirmed, it could lead to more intensified confrontations.
