Shafiq claim victory in Egypt prezpoll

Former Egyptian prime minister Ahmed Shafiq repeated his claim of victory in a presidential runoff after the election commission postponed the announcement of the result of the weekend election.

 Shafiq said on Thursday that he is convinced he is the winner. Shafiq's election camp had declared his victory in a news conference on Tuesday.Another runoff candidate, Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, had claimed victory on Monday.

The commission postponed the announcement of the election results to study complaints filed by the two candidates.Shafiq criticized Morsi's supporters, saying they are continuing to demonstrate in central Cairo to put pressure on the election commission.

Political Observers said  the confrontations between the supporters of the two candidates may  escalate when the official results are released.
