Apple, Samsung patent trial begins in US

Two of leader tech companies US computer giant Apple,South Korean competitor Samsung Electronics are entangled in a new round of their legal battle on patents for smartphones and tablet computers. The Jury selection began at the federal courthouse in San Jose, California, on Monday. These two firms have fought fifty similar trials around the world, including in Japan, since April last year.

Apple is asking the US court to stop Samsung from selling its smartphones and tablet computers in the US.  Apple demand compensation for loss of market share.Apple says Samsung copied its iPhone design after the smartphone hit the market in 2007. Samsung's lawyers argue that the iPhone was not as original design. They say the US maker based its design on Sony models.

Samsung has countersued Apple, claiming the US firm infringed on its patents for communication technologies. The trial is expected to take at least four weeks. The outcome is likely to affect control of the US smartphone and tablet market.
