China, Indonesia to resolve South China Sea issue by discussion to retain peace in the regions.
China and Indonesia say they are willing to discuss rules to
peacefully resolve territorial disputes over islands in the South China
Sea.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met Indonesian counterpart Marty
Natalegawa in Jakarta on Friday. They discussed the deepening
differences between China and some members of the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations.The foreign ministers issued a joint declaration stating that all countries in the region share a responsibility to maintain peace in the South China Sea. It also says the ministers agreed to work on a code of conduct for the peaceful resolution of disputes.
China and the ASEAN in July agreed in principle to hold consultations on improving relations.But the ASEAN is calling for mechanisms to avert conflicts, while China maintains a passive stance.
