Dipika Pallikal stretches World No. 4 Laura Massaro to the limit
Loses in 5 sets in the semis of the Australian Squash Open
Canberra, 18th August, 2011: After creating history as the first Indian to reach the semi-finals of a Gold Series squash event, Dipika Pallikal looked set to storm into the finals in her semi-final clash against World No.4 Laura Massaro before losing in 5 games. In one of the longest matches of the tournament, Dipika started slow, losing the first game 7-11, before winning the second and fourth games 11-7 and 11-3. In the keenly contested decider, Dipika and Laura were neck and neck but Laura eventually won the game and match 7-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-3, 9-11.
Following her brilliant performance in her quarterfinal against 19-year-old Amanda at the National Convention Centre, where she stamped her authority with a 11-5, 11-7, 12-10 win, Dipika looked in winning form through the closely fought semi-finals, making England's more experience Laura truly fight for every point.
In her third appearance at the Australian Squash Open, Dipika has created history by becoming the first Indian to enter the last four stage in a Gold Series event.

Dipika played her first international squash tournament in London when she was in her sixth grade. Currently training under renowned squash player- Sarah Fitz-Gerald, Dipika reached her career-best ranking of world number 14 in February 2012, which made her the highest ranked Indian squash player ever.
In May 2012 she created history by being part of the first Indian women's team to win the Asian Squash Championship title.
20 year old Dipika has already won the German Open, Dutch Open, French Open, Australian Open, Scottish Open on the European Junior Squash Circuit
