Syrian military controls all of Damascus

 A Syrian military official says President Bashar al-Assad's troops have regained control of all opposition strongholds in the capital, Damascus.The military began using tanks to attack opposition forces near the city center on Friday.Anti-government troops have been intensifying their offensive in parts of the capital since mid-July.

A military commander told the media that Syrian forces retook all opposition positions in the capital on Saturday.Government forces are also stepping up attacks in the northern city of Aleppo. They are deploying fighter jets to bombard suburban residential and commercial areas.A human rights group based in Britain says more than 20 people, including civilians, were killed on Friday and Saturday.
