India, Burundi ink three MOUs

India and Burundi on Tuesday signed three MOUs for cooperation on in the fields of Education, Health and Medicine and Rural Development. These MOUs were signed after Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the visiting President of Burundi held Pierre Nkurunziza held delegation level talks at Hyderabad House, New Delhi.


Speaking after the MoU signing ceremony, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza addressed the media.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh announced the line of credit extened to Burundi for its economic development.


Prime Minister also appreciated Burundi's support to India's bid for a permanent seat in UN Security council.

Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza expressed his country's support for India's candidature to a permanent seat in an expanded UN Security Council.


Nkurunziza also took this opportunity in his talks with our Prime Minister that Burundi wanted to be a member of the Commonwealth and hoped that India will support Burundi in its claim to be member of the prestigious grouping.
