SC opinion on natural resources vindicates our stand: Govt

Welcoming the Supreme Court opinion on allocation of natural resources, Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Friday said that the apex court’s opinion has vindicated the government’s stand.
Chidambaram along with Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid, while addressing a press conference in the national capital, said, “We are happy with the Supreme Court opinion on allocation of natural resources.”

The Finance Minister further said, “We believe that the position of the government that has been articulated in the last few years—as regards various issues—the court has laid down principles which are in complete consonance with what the government has always believed and endorsed.”

Salman Khurshid said that the verdict has further enforced the principle of separation of powers between the judiciary and the executive.

He said the verdict will give the government important guidance as it moves forward and enable the Centre to take forward its public policies.

Kapil Sibal said that the judgement has brought about "enormous clarity with which government can start taking decision without fearing there will be interference from other Constitutional authorities."

He said the judgement clearly states that policy issue is entirely within the domain of the executive, "especially in the context of the economic policies".
