China inflation falls to lowest level in three years

The rate of inflation in China has fallen to its lowest level for nearly three years. Official figures show that consumer prices rose by 1.7 per cent in the 12 months to October. After years of efforts to contain inflation, the Chinese government last year shifted its policy towards trying to prevent a rapid economic slowdown.
