Hua Hin, Thailand, January 22, 2013: A strong Indian contingent of 18
golfers will tee it up at the Final Stage of the Asian Tour’s
Qualifying School for the 2013 season at Hua Hin, Thailand. The final
stage will be played from January 23 – 26, 2013 at two golf courses –
Imperial Lakeview Golf Club and Springfield Royal Country Club – in
Hua Hin, Thailand. The top 40 players and ties will earn Asian Tour
cards out of a total of 248 players.
Leading the Indian charge will be Chiragh Kumar, the 2011 Rolex
Rankings champion who also has two top-10s on the Asian Tour under his
belt. The seasoned Gaurav Ghei, a three-time winner on the Asian Tour,
is also in the fray. Rahil Gangjee is the other Asian Tour winner who
will be part of the Indian brigade.
Two extremely talented youngsters Rashid Khan and Abhijit Singh
Chadha, both 21 years of age, will strive for a full card on the Asian
Tour with good performances at the Q-School. Rashid and Abhijit have
already tasted success at home with tournament wins and the PGTI’s
Emerging Player of the Year title for the 2011 and 2012 seasons
respectively. Rashid finished second on the 2012 Rolex Rankings.
There is a lot of depth in talent as far as the Indians are concerned
as Ajeetesh Sandhu, Mandeo Singh Pathania and Gurbaaz Mann are the
other youngsters to have won in India who also feature in this field.
Abhinav Lohan, who along with Rashid Khan and Abhijit Singh Chadha was
a member of the Indian team that won the silver medal at the 2010
Guangzhou Asian Games, will also be vying for an Asian Tour card.
Lohan has come up with some outstanding performances on the PGTI over
the last two years.
Vikrant Chopra, Amardip Sinh Malik and Deepinder Singh Kullar could
also make an impression at the Q-School as they have been consistent
performers on the PGTI in the last few years. Vikrant was a member of
the three-man team that won the coveted LP Cup team championship last
year.
One cannot discount Khalin Joshi, another rising star from India, who
recently won the PGTI’s Qualifying School for the 2013 season.
The other Indians who will be vying for playing rights on the Asian
Tour at this week’s Q-School include Randhir Singh Ghotra, KPS Sekhon,
Arshpreet Thind, Dipankar Kaushal and Pravin Pathare.
