Durga Vahini stopped Naked & Nude Exhibition in
Delhi
New Delhi February 2, 2013. Durga Vahini, the women wing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad today sut down the exhibition called "The Naked and the Nude - The body in Indian modern art" shown by Delhi Art Gallery in Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi. Mrs Sanjana Chaudhary, the state convener Duga Vahini said that we have today personally seen all such paintings and called the police to stop it as the nude and obscene paintings which shows women in very bad light and disrespectfully is highly objectionable. The gallery later closed.
In this regard Durga Vahini already wrote a
letter to the organizers before its opening on Saturday morning. A copy of the
same was also sent to the union Home minister, LG shri Tejendra Khanna, CM Mrs
Sheela Dixit, South Delhi Mayor Mrs Savita Gupta and the police head of the
national capital shri Neeraj Kumar requesting them to get this exhibition
banned and arrest its organizers said Vinod Bansal, the state media chief of
VHP Delhi.
These around 250 nude paintings of women shows them
as a mere commodity and in the light of Delhi’s infamous gang rape this kind of
immoral act which depicts women as a sex object should not be allowed. It is
also to be noted that showing indecent pictures is a punishable offence under
section 292 and other sections of IPC, thus we requested the concerned
authorities on behalf of Delhi
women to ban this exhibition. We have demanded immediate action against the organizers
of this exhibition, he added.
Shri Deepak Kumar, the state vice president of
VHP-Delhi was also accompanied with the six
Member delegation comprised of Mrs. Usha Nechal, Harpreet Dhillon, Deepa Lalvani,
Anita Paliwal & Seema Thakur.
