Russian official has said he will promote construction of airports on disputed islands off northern Japan.
Presidential office chief of staff Sergei Ivanov made a speech in Moscow
on Friday at a ceremony to mark the 90th anniversary of the civil
aviation industry in Russia.He said airport projects are under way on the Russian-controlled islands. Japan claims the islands.He expressed hope that the remote region will soon be free from any problem regarding access to air traffic.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed his
willingness to give priority to constructing new airports in the north
and Far East along with assisting local air carriers.
