TUNE HOTELS’ EXPANSION INTO RESORT CITIES

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 February 2013 – Strong demand from holidaymakers around the region has spurred international value hotel chain Tune Hotels to further widen its presence into resort islands and beach destinations across Southeast Asia.

Tune Hotel Patong in the island of Phuket, Thailand is the latest addition to the list that already includes Kuta and Legian in Bali, Indonesia; Pattaya in Thailand; and Cebu in the Philippines.

Tune Hotels Group CEO Mark Lankester attributed this positive development to the exponential growth in cross-border regional tourism largely brought about by easy access to and affordability of air travel across the archipelago and mainland Southeast Asia.

“Years ago many people could have only dreamt of holidaying in Phuket or Bali but the proliferation of low cost carrier services such as AirAsia has transformed most of these dreams into a reality. What used to be a luxury affair in the past is today a regular routine for many. Many now even are able to enjoy several trips annually,” said Mark.

Against this backdrop, he said, Tune Hotels came into the picture to provide tourists and travellers a compelling accommodation alternative that offers high-quality room stays at exceptionally affordable rates.

“By setting up hotels in popular islands and resort destinations, we are enabling more people to visit these places without burning a big hole in their pocket. I am very pleased with the opening of our latest Tune Hotel Patong in Phuket that has been incredibly well-received by the tourism community,” he added.

The 144-room Tune Hotel Patong opened its doors on 28 December 2012, ushering in the New Year with strong forward bookings from guests.

Just minutes’ walk to the world famous Patong Beach, the hotel is also easily accessible from other Phuket beaches and recreational attractions such as national parks, waterfalls, golf courses and water sport facilities.

“The opening of Tune Hotel Patong, which complements the other hotels in Thailand, namely Hat Yai, Pattaya and Bangkok, further reflects on our strong commitment towards the travel and tourism industry in the region. With a population in excess of 600 million, Southeast Asia presents a huge market for us and we look forward to welcoming them at our hotels,” said Mark.

Tune Hotels has successfully pioneered a branded value hotel brand with the concept of pay-as-you-use that has become hugely popular amongst travellers from across the world. Under the concept, guests only pay for room rates with the option of adding on other amenities like towels & toiletries, air-conditioning, in-room wifi and satellite TV service.

Tune Hotels has received over four million guests since the opening of its first hotel in downtown Kuala Lumpur in 2007. There are currently 27 Tune Hotels with 11 in Malaysia, five in the UK, four in the Philippines, four in Thailand and three in Indonesia. Ahmedabad, India and Melbourne, Australia are upcoming hotels in 2013.

Tune Hotels is part of Tune Group, a lifestyle business conglomerate co-founded by Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun, who are the Group CEO and Deputy Group CEO respectively of Asia’s largest low cost carrier AirAsia.
