St. Joseph’s High School, Calicut made a winning start to
their campaign, defeating Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj 2–1 in the
inter-city leg of the 3rd Mahindra Youth Football Challenge, which
kicked off at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Wednesday. Javed Hassan
and Leon Augustine scored a goal each, while Sanat Gupta was the lone
scorer for the New Delhi team. Lazim Ali from Kerala was recognized as
the Star Performer of the match.
In other matches, Kolkata’s Ashoknagar Vidyasagar Banibhaban routed Panjim’s Don Bosco High School 5-0, while Don Bosco, Matunga outplayed Greenwood International High School, Bangalore 2–0.
A brace of goals each by Sanjib Malakar and Dipankar Baral, and one by Santanu Debnath featured in the Kolkata team’s big win. Suman Dutta was the Star Performer for his inspiring on-field performance.
For Don Bosco, Matunga, Pierre Noronha and Nathan Fernandes scored in the 33rd and 43rd minutes of the game, with Fernandes later being named the Star Performer of the match.
