The Ministry of Micro, Small &
Medium Enterprises (MSME) is organizing the National Awards Function for Micro,
Small & Medium Enterprises. The
President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will be the Chief Guest and present
the National Awards to successful MSMEs and Banks on this occasion.
Shri K.H. Muniyappa, Minister
of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of MSME will preside over the Function.
National Awards were
instituted in 1983 to felicitate the outstanding performers in the MSME sector
in the areas of Entrepreneurship, R&D, Product Quality and innovation. The awards are also given to outstanding
achievers in Khadi, Village Industries & Coir sector as well as to Banks in
recognition of their credit support to the Small and Micro Enterprises.
This year’s total numbers
of National Awardees are 108, including 39 from MSME Sector, 45 from Khadi
& Village Industries and 18 from Coir Industries in different categories
and 6 Banks. The Awards are given to MSMEs for outstanding performance in Entrepreneurship,
Research and Development, Innovation and Quality Products. The First, Second
and Third National Awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, Rs. 75,000/-
and Rs. 50,000/- respectively, a certificate and a trophy. One Special Award is given to one outstanding
woman entrepreneur, one outstanding entrepreneur from SC/ST community and one outstanding
entrepreneur from North Eastern Region.
National Awards are also given to Banks for Excellence in MSE lending
and Excellence in lending to Micro Enterprises.
Research & Development Efforts in
MSMEs
This category includes
three Awards (First, Second and Third) for Micro and Small Enterprises and have
gone to entrepreneurs from Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana respectively.
Three Awards (First, Second
and Third) for Medium Enterprises and have gone to entrepreneurs from Punjab,
Rajasthan and Haryana respectively.
Innovation
Efforts in MSMEs
Last year, during the
National Awards Function Hon’ble Minister MSME announced that awards
will be instituted for Product Innovation and Process Innovation in MSME sector. These new Awards are being introduced from
this year and include three Awards, one each in Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises
category. These awards have gone to entrepreneurs from Himachal Pradesh,
Gujarat and Punjab respectively.
Outstanding Efforts in Entrepreneurship
This
category includes –
i) Three National Awards (First,
Second and Third) for Micro Enterprises.
These awards have gone to entrepreneurs from Haryana, West Bengal and
Andhra Pradesh respectively.
ii) Three National Awards (First, Second and
Third) for Small Enterprises. First Award has gone to an entrepreneur from
Himachal Pradesh. Second Award has been
given jointly to four entrepreneurs from Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, New Delhi and
Uttar Pradesh. Third Award has been
given jointly to three entrepreneurs from Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka.
iii) Three (First, Second and Third)
awards for Medium Enterprises, These awards have gone to entrepreneurs from
Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Punjab respectively.
IV) Three (First, Second, Third)
awards for MSEs in the services sector. These awards have gone to entrepreneurs from Gujarat, Haryana and Odisha
respectively.
v) Special Awards at par with the
First National Award to honour an outstanding woman entrepreneur, an
outstanding entrepreneur from SC/ST, and an entrepreneur from North-Eastern
Region. This year’s awards have been given to Gujarat, Haryana and Assam
respectively.
Quality Products
This category includes awards
for achieving outstanding quality benchmarks in certain product groups,
selected every year. One National Award
is given for each category of the selected products.
This year National Awards
for Quality Products 2011 are being given to eligible entrepreneurs for 10 products
i.e. (1) Sports Goods (Leather & Allied) (2) Herbal Cosmetic Products (3)
Plastic & Medicals Disposables (4) Ceramic Glazed Tiles (5) Ready to Serve
Beverages (6) Wooden Furniture (7) Ferrous Castings (8) Electric Motors (9)
Printed Circuit Board (10) Undergarments.
National
Awards to Banks for excellence in MSE lending and excellence in lending to
micro enterprise will also be presented.
With a view to encouraging
the Banks to enhance credit flow to the MSE sector, a Scheme of National Awards
to the Banks in recognition of their outstanding performance in financing the
micro and small enterprises sector was introduced from the year 2001-02.
Further, the National Awards for Excellence in Lending to Micro Enterprises
have also been instituted from the year 2005-06.
There
are three awards for each of the above two mentioned categories. The Ist and 2nd awards are given
to the major public sector Banks & a special award is given to one of the
Associate Banks of State Bank of India.
The awards are given in the form of Trophies along with certificates.
Awards for KVIC
45 Awards are being given for Khadi
& Village sector.
Awards for Coir Board Sectors
18 Awards are being given
to entrepreneurs for their outstanding performance in production and export of
various coir products.
Privilege
of the Award Winners
The Winners of the National
Awards have the privilege of using the symbol of the Award in their letter
heads and their employees can wear labels, pins, ties or other distinctive
badges with Award symbol indicating the year of the Award.
The amount of Cash Prize
received by the Winners of the National Awards is exempted under Section 10(7)
of Income Tax Act 1961.
