Africa Forum – Delhi

After decades marked by economic, political and academic marginality, Africa is currently placed front and centre in the global economy and in academic interest. Even though the Indian state and the private sector are closely engaged with the continent, there is a conspicuous dearth of knowledge on the varied and shifting dynamics of state, society and cultures in Africa. To the extent that these concerns are debated, there is an understandable but limiting emphasis on India’s interests and policies in Africa. We consquently believe that there is a need to widen the discussion around Africa on a wide range of issues from political economy, theory and criticism, to gender and ecology. The Forum is an attempt to create the space for such an endevour in Delhi through study groups, lectures, discussions and outreach.
Academics, students, practitioners and the inquisitive are invited for the inaugural meeting of the Forum on July 23, 2013 at the Centre for Policy Research. We shall kick off the Forum with a discussion on Africa’s recent economic growth, which will be led by Rick Rowden, PhD candidate at JNU, who has published on the theme in, among other publications, Foreign Policy and The Economist.
When: July 23, 2013. 4 pm
Where: Conference Hall, Centre for Policy Research, Dharam Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi 110021
