Berlusconi prefers prison to house arrest

Former Italian Prime Mister Silvio Berlusconi, says he’ll do time behind bars if found definitively guilty of tax fraud and won’t take advantage of the country’s policy allowing elderly people to carry out their sentences under house arrest. "I am almost 78 years old and I would have the right to house arrest, but if they find me guilty, if they take on that responsibility, I will go to prison," he told Libero newspaper.

Former PM  billionaire added that he  won’t go into exile, nor agree to being entrusted to social services “like a criminal who has to be re-educated."

Italy's Supreme Court to meet on Tuesday to consider Berlusconi’s appeal against a guilty tax trial verdict and rule on whether to uphold his conviction and confirm the one-year prison sentence and a five-year ban from public office. Media agencies
