Rouhani is Iran's new president with new hopes

Hassan Rouhani is Iran's new president.

Rouhani was inaugurated as Iran's 7th president on Saturday when he received a mandate from the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Rouhani pledged to take new steps towards securing Iran's national interests and removing international sanctions.Rouhani cited economic improvement, constructive interaction with the world, and the restoration of morality as the orientation of the new government. He is moderate conservative won a sweeping victory in June's presidential election.

Iran during the eight-year presidency of his predecessor, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran was locked in a bitter dispute with the United States and European nations over its nuclear development program. Its economy suffered heavily due to international sanctions.Iran also faced the risk of military action by Israel. The six world powers involved in nuclear talks with Iran have high hopes that the negotiations will resume as early as next month now that President Hassan Rouhani is in office.

European Union's foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, issued a statement immediately after Rouhani's victory in Iran's presidential election. She said she was ready to cooperate with the new leadership to find a diplomatic solution to the issue of Iran's nuclear development. Ashton oversees the talks on behalf of the six powers notably the 5 UN Security Council permanent members and Germany.

Other EU officials presented the view that Rouhani may be more flexible than his predecessor in the negotiations. Rouhani used to be Iran's chief negotiator in the nuclear talks and previously reached a tentative agreement with his Western counterparts.

The six  nations aim to restart the talks in early September after Rouhani names a new team of negotiators. The talks were last held in April. Media agencies
