HOUSING RIGHTS ACTIVISTS FROM 19 STATES TO LAUNCH NATION-WIDE CAMPAIGN

Ghetoisation of the urban poor and rampant evictions across the country brought together more than 50 housing rights activists representing 32 organisations from 19 states to work on an action plan to challenge denial of the rights of the CityMakers (urban poor).

Participants stated that despite the existence of various laws, policies and schemes there are wide gaps in implementation of the same. The members of the National Forum for Housing Rights (NFHR) plans to study and analyse the various housing policies across the country and demand progressive legislations. The forum also seeks to launch a nation-wide campaign to challenge the orchestrated efforts of the state to deny the urban poor the Right to City.

The three-day strategy meeting is being held at UTC, Bangalore.
