Philippines rebels attack 2nd town

5 missing, 2 wounded as Philippines rebels attack 2nd town

Filipino rebels attacked predominantly Christian outskirts of Lamitan town in Basilan province on Thursday morning, and officials say five people were missing and two wounded. It is a second town near the southern port where rebels are holding scores of residents hostage in a standoff with government forces. The assault on Lamitan was repulsed, regional Governor Mujiv Hataman said. Residents had already been evacuated Wednesday. Moro National Liberation Front fighters have been holding more than 100 hostages since Monday.
