San Suu Kyi speaks at World AIDS Day event

Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has called for eliminating discrimination against HIV-positive people and AIDS patients.

She made the remark in Melbourne, Australia, on Sunday in a lecture for the UN's World AIDS Day.

She serves as an advocate for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS to advance efforts to eliminate discrimination against people affected by the epidemic.

She said it is important to spread accurate knowledge of HIV/AIDS around the world.

Aung Sang Suu Kyi said it is not acceptable in a civilized society to be discriminated against on any grounds of race, religion, belief, physical disability or physical disease.
