10th Annual National Conference
on Electoral and Political Reforms,
15- 16 February, 2014, at Ranchi
Every year
Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW) hold
National Conference in different states with primary focus on Electoral and
Political reforms. The Conference is held with the aim of bringing together and
synergizing efforts towards strengthening democracy in the country.
Topics of
discussion during the conference range from ‘Need for electoral reforms’, ‘Reducing
Impact of money in elections’ to ‘Role of media in elections’. These
discussions have been enriched by the participation of eminent people including
the Chief Election Commissioner, former Chief Justices, representatives of
political parties, civil society and the media.
This year, ADR
and NEW take great pride in inviting one and all to the 10th Annual
Conference, being held in Ranchi, ‘the city of waterfalls’.
With the Lok
Sabha Elections around the corner, the 10th Annual National
Conference to be held in Ranchi on the 15th and 16th of
February holds a special charm. ADR’s campaign, ‘Mera Vote Mera Desh’ will be the
primary focus of the conference, which is being inaugurated by the Election Commissioner
of India, Shri H S Brahma. With a
strength of 1200 partner NGOs, the National Election Watch has launched the ‘Mera Vote Mera
Desh’ Campaign to sensitize the voters across the nation not to sell
their votes and not to cast their votes for tainted candidates. The emphasis of
the ‘Mera
Vote Mera Desh’ campaign is towards enhancing voter awareness and
their empowerment, thereby reducing the impact of crime and money in politics.
Apart from a
discussion on the campaign, the 10th Annual National conference will
also focus and debate on ‘Political Party
Reforms’, Role of Media in Elections’ and ‘Pending Reforms with the Law Commission’. These deliberations would
have eminent panellists and Chairpersons. An update on the plans and strategies
from the various ‘State Election Watch’ for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections
will also be held.
