Myanmar rally for change in charter that bars Suu Kyi

Thousands of people joined Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in a rally in Myanmar’s main city of Yangon yesterday demanding changes in the military-drafted constitution that bars Aung San Suu Kyi from contesting for Presidentship. The 2008 constitution bars anyone with spouse or children as foreign citizens from becoming the President. Any change in the constitution needs the support of over 75% of the legislative members. Parliamentary elections are due in 2015. The country’s President is selected by the legislative, and Suu Kyi has declared her ambition to run for President.
