Saina pulls out of C'wealth Games next week citing injury

Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal has pulled out of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow starting next week after failing to recover from leg blisters sustained during the Australian Open Super Series triumph last month. The defending champion termed her decision as difficult but an important one.

India's hopes of fetching five badminton medals at the Commonwealth Games suffered a massive jolt today after Saina Nehwal pulled out citing injury.

The Olympic bronze medallist said she had to take the decision in order to get fit for the rest of the season which includes important tournaments like the World Championship and the Asian Games.

Saina said she has not got enough time to train herself and does not want to take the risk of injury again. Nehwal became the first non-Chinese shuttler to win a women's singles Super Series title in this year.

India had won four medals in Badminton in the previous edition of the Commonwealth Games at New Delhi. Besides Saina's gold in the women's singles, the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won the yellow metal in women's doubles, Parupalli Kashyap earned a bronze in the men's singles, while the hosts settled for silver in the team event.
